CNN —Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold says that the England squad will head to Euro 2024 believing it can win the European Championship in Germany this summer. Speaking to CNN’s Senior Sports Analyst Darren Lewis, the Three Lions defender was bullish about England’s chances at the Euros. That’s what we can achieve,” said Alexander-Arnold. It’s the furthest thing from arrogance, but you have to have confidence and believe you can win it, otherwise you can’t. “I would say midfield, I think, in an England shirt,” said Alexander-Arnold, who usually plays for Liverpool in defense as a right-back.

CNN —For much of this season, Liverpool fans had spoken about sending Jürgen Klopp into the sunset with a historic quadruple of trophies. On Wednesday, Liverpool was stunned 2-0 by struggling local rival Everton in the final Merseyside derby of Klopp’s reign, all but ending the team’s hopes of winning a second Premier League title during the German’s tenure. The defeat leaves Liverpool in second place, three points behind Arsenal and one ahead of Manchester City, though Pep Guardiola’s side now has two games in hand. Klopp will now likely end his final season in charge with just the League Cup. In the second half, the emotions, we’re in a rush, not really clear enough and then we concede the second goal with a routine they’ve done all season.

Xabi Alonso was appointed the club’s head coach in October 2022, with Leverkusen languishing near the bottom of the German table. Prior to being appointed Leverkusen’s manager, Alonso had coached Real Madrid’s Under-14 team and Real Sociedad’s B team. We have seen in the past what else can happen,” Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tag told Dazn after the victory over Köln. There are 10 games remaining in the Bundesliga season and Leverkusen is the strong favorite to win its first ever league title. And with Leverkusen in semifinals of the domestic cup and the round-of-16 stage of the Europa League, Alonso could cap off a memorable second season in first-team management with a hat-trick of trophies.

CNN —An independent Appeal Board has reduced Everton FC’s sanction for breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs) from 10 points to six. It comes after the Merseyside club successfully appealed a November decision by an independent commission to deduct points for breaching financial rules. The successful appeal moved Everton, which has failed to register a win in their last five matches, up to 15th in the Premier League table. That was a reference to the Premier League charging Everton with a second PSR breach along with Nottingham Forest in January. In response to the latest charge, the Liverpool-based club criticised “a clear deficiency in the Premier League’s rules.”

Everton became the first Premier League club to be deducted points for breaching financial sustainability rules on Friday. An independent commission imposed an immediate deduction that saw the Merseyside club drop to second-from-bottom from 14th. Byrne, MP for Liverpool, West Derby, said the points deduction was "grossly unjust" and that the level of sanction lacked "any legal or equitable foundation or justification...""This House contends the Premier League can no longer fairly govern top-flight football without independent scrutiny and legislation," he said in the EDM, which MPs can sign up to but are not binding and often do not lead to any action. Oct 12 (Reuters) - Liverpool's new upper tier in the Anfield Road stand will remain closed until the end of the year, the Premier League club said on Thursday, as a further delay of the expansion project sees fans' tickets cancelled for the Oct. 21 game against Everton. The new tier, which will increase Anfield's capacity by 7,000 seats to more than 61,000, was initially expected to be ready for the 2023-24 season. That includes the visit of local rivals Everton for which Liverpool had already sold tickets, planning on having some of the upper tier open for the Merseyside derby. "Ultimately we won't be in a position to be able to provide seats for those fans who have purchased those tickets in the upper tier," Hogan said. REUTERS/Carl Recine/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Oct 6 (Reuters) - British house prices fell at the fastest pace since 2009 over the 12 months to September, data from mortgage lending Halifax showed on Friday, echoing other measures of the housing market which have slowed after a jump in interest rates. Halifax said house prices were 4.7% lower last month than in September 2022, compared with a 4.5% annual fall in August. Prices fell by 0.4% in September from August, a less severe monthly drop than August's 1.8% slide. Rival lender Nationwide said on Monday its measure of house prices in September were 5.3% lower than a year earlier, matching their fall in August which was the biggest annual drop since 2009, although prices were unchanged in monthly terms. The firm 777 Partners has a number of clubs in its portfolio, including Italian side Genoa and Belgian team Standard Liege, while they also have stakes in LaLiga club Sevilla and Australian A-League side Melbourne Victory. By January 2022, he had increased his stake to 94.1% with a 100 million pounds capital injection. Everton's most recent figures showed a fifth straight year of losses -- 44.7 million pounds for the 2021-22 season -- with their total loss over that period amounting to over 430 million pounds . Under Premier League rules, teams can make a maximum loss of 105 million pounds over three years, although special allowances were made for the COVID-19 pandemic. Everton's statement said the investment from 777 Partners would strengthen the club's balance sheet and guarantee "full funding" of the stadium.

It's just always bugged me but I was really proud of the way that I struck the ball today. Few of the thousands huddled under a sea of umbrellas would have tipped world number 26 Harman to win before the tournament. Likewise, Young, Rahm, Day and England's Tommy Fleetwood were all unable to hole the putts that would have at least asked some questions of Harman's nerve. But not even a Merseyside monsoon could rain on Harman's parade as he enjoyed a victory march down the last.
